TERASi, a pioneer in advanced communication solutions, is taking 6G innovation to the next level with its revolutionary wafer-scale Aircore™ packaging platform. In collaboration with IHP (The Leibniz Institute for High Performance Microelectronics) and IAF GmbH, TERASi is spearheading this initiative under the prestigious Eureka Eurostars programme, supported by the European Union.

6G aims to deliver unified, intelligent, and ultra-fast communications. It will utilize new sub-terahertz (sub-THz) bands between 110-170 GHz (D-band). The primary commercial focus is on D-band due to its large available bandwidth enabling data rates above 100 Gbps. Leveraging D-band however poses formidable challenges. Current technologies struggle to scale efficiently, with persistent bottlenecks in extracting high-frequency signals without significant power loss or expensive custom interfaces.

Building on the recent launch of its highly anticipated RU1 mm-wave radio, which has received strong industry attention, TERASi is now extending its innovation pipeline into 6G system-in-package (SiP) solutions to address these challenges.

TERASi’s Aircore™ SiP platform offers a breakthrough solution by integrating wideband, high-efficiency antennas directly within the package, eliminating the need for on-chip antennas. This significantly lowers chip costs while optimizing Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) performance. In a previous collaboration, TERASi demonstrated over 90% RF efficiency with its cutting-edge D-band antenna designed to meet the growing demands of high-speed communication.

In the EU-band project, TERASi  will develop end-to-end 6G wireless links operating in D-band by integrating IAF's software-defined radio units and IHP's silicon germanium (SiGe) chipsets using TERASi's Aircore™ packaging and integration technology. As the project lead, TERASi is responsible for the overall system development.

TERASi’s advanced SiP solution, powered by its Aircore™ technology, lays the foundation for compact, high-performance modules tailored for advanced communication and sensing applications,” said James Campion, CEO of TERASi. “A strong and complementary consortium is critical to success. With the support of the Eurostars programme, TERASi’s Aircore™ platform, IHP’s semiconductor expertise, and IAF’s radio technology together we can unlock new opportunities for European 6G leadership.

This collaborative effort is made possible through the Eureka Eurostars programme, part of the European Partnership on Innovative SMEs in cross-border R&D. As the largest international funding initiative of its kind, Eurostar accelerates the development and commercialization of groundbreaking technologies like TERASi’s, strengthening Europe’s position at the forefront of global communications.
